OVERVIEW: 

TheOne08 is a purveyor of ethically produced, vegan leather handbags committed to wildlife conservation and economic development within Northern Kenya. They needed a logo which felt premium but not too exclusive and contained an element that could be extracted as a brand icon for hardware applications.

Market Research & Initial Concepts 

First, I researched the market and examined the product branding of other vegan leather handbag companies. I also reviewed the hardware applications of many well-known luxury brands competing in this space. Then, I created two slightly different project briefs and proposed 4 unique concepts back to the client. To help them select a logo, I demonstrated how each of these initial concepts might look in print media, as a social media icon, as an embossed logo, and as a hardware icon.

 

Logo Refinement & Brand Guide

TheOne08 team selected Concept 2B. I refined the initial design by flipping the orientation of the number "8" and added the brand name vertically on the right side of the icon for the final logo lock-up. I also created a secondary logo that is more suitable for horizontal usage. From there I built out the rest of the brand guide by specifying logo usage guidelines, creating a color palette, selecting a typeface, and designing business cards.

 

Hardware, Print & Packaging Development

Following the completion of the logo design project, I continued to collaborate with TheOne08 co-founder and handbag designer, Marnie Quinn. We developed the Leopard Empress signature print that is used on the handbag linings throughout the collection. We also designed and developed the hardware icons which are featured prominently across the range. I wrapped up the project by designing several direct to consumer packaging concepts.
