Seasonal Color Palette Creation

Footwear Design / Development

Print Design / Development

Established in 1959, Hotter shoes continues to design and produce comfort footwear from their factory headquarters in Lancashire, England. In fact, they are the largest shoe manufacturer throughout the United Kingdom. The brand specializes in direct-injection outsoles and primarily targets female consumers of retirement age through a mailer catalog and many stand alone domestic retail shops. I was brought in as a consultant to design new styles to attract a slightly younger customer and provide input on current trends within the American retail landscape.

Color & Trend Direction

At the beginning of every new season I traveled to key footwear markets including New York, Chicago and London to identify important fashion trends. From there, I created a seasonal color palette and presented the product development team with ideas for material direction and styling details. I aided in the creation of a strategic plan to update the product range and began to design new silhouettes for the upcoming season.

Footwear Design & Development

For the Autumn / Winter 2019 season, I was tasked with refreshing the Formal Shoe and Boot segments of the range. I've highlighted the design process for Dallas, an asymmetrical ankle boot with studs along the topline. It was a top performer for the season along with Delight, a side zip boot with ornate floral embroidery along the lateral heel counter. I proposed 4 initial concepts from which the team selected 2 styles. I completed tech packs and color specifications and then traveled to Hotter's manufacturing partners in Vietnam and India to oversee development.

Additional Designs

Other highlights from the A/W 2019 season include Joanna, a new 75mm heel with a flattering toe shape. The assortment included a mustard yellow version in rich suede, a black version with a studded topline, and a leopard pony hair style for a touch of novelty. The elegant Montana boot featured a quilted panel, an oversized strap and buckle, and a medial side zip. I also worked on some casual styles including Raven, a comfortable lace-up walking shoe.
